Strategic Leadership
A. School Vision, Mission, and Strategic Goals: The school's identity, in part, is derived from the vision, mission, values, beliefs and goals of the school, the processes used to establish these attributes, and the ways they are embodied in the life of the school community.
Welcome Back - Opening Meeting Agenda
Our Opening Meeting gave us an opportunity to discuss the vision for the school year as well as Capturing Kids Hearts, PBIS, and Project Based Learning initiatives. The Opening Meeting facilitated the setting of high, concrete goals and the expectation that all students can meet them.

Capturing Kids Hearts
CKH is a district initiative that incorporates social contracts, greetings, and good things into the classroom on a daily basis. At Lucas, we used Capturing Kids Hearts to start each day with good things, interact with students upon entering the building, and provide positive affirmations throughout the day. CKH systematically challenges the status quo by leading change with potentially beneficial outcomes.
CKH Carpool Greetings
Evidence of one of our 5th Grade scholars greeting students in car pool. Mr. Somers modeled greeting each student in car pool daily. The greetings provide students an opportunity to get 1-on-1 engagement from an administrator, staff members, or peer. The greetings create a system with stakeholders that encourages a vision for the school that captures people's imagination and attention.
Y.E. Smith's Uniform Policy
Y.E. Smith is uniform school. Our students are required to wear Polo type shirts and khaki or dark blue pants or skirts. We have college day the last Friday of the month. The uniform is a way to provide students with a universal school dress code. The uniform policy allows the school to share a vision of the changing world in the 21st century.
B. Leading Change: The principal articulates a vision, and implements strategies, for improvement and changes which result in improved achievement for all students.
Discipline Protocol
I created a Google Form related to the Discipline Protocol. This Discipline Protocol form was used in PLC meetings to drive discussions related to improving our practices at Y.E. Smith. Upon entering Y.E. Smith, we noticed several gaps in discipline practices. We used the data from the survey to fine-tune some of the discipline practices while making changes to others.
Y. E. Smith Daily Pledge
C. School Improvement Plan: The school improvement plan provides the structure for the vision, values, goals and changes necessary for improved achievement for all students.
Comprehensive Needs Assessment
We reviewed the Comprehensive Progress Report, and started completing a new Comprehensive Needs Assessment with teachers and parents. We inherited the Comprehensive Needs Assessment established by the previous administration.
Indistar
We use IndiStar to look at the school's goals, purpose, indicators, and historical data. These items were inherited, but we have started to develop new norms, theme and school goals for the 2018-2019 school year.
Indistar provides a list of successfully completed core functions at Y. E. Smith. We are continuing to use the core functions to look for pros and cons withing the school.
D. Distributive Leadership: The principal creates and utilizes processes to distribute and decision making throughout the school.
Front Office Schedule
In an effort to maximize intervention, we met as an office staff and revamped our front office coverage schedule. The new policy facilitates the implementation of school policies to ensure the safety of students and staff members.
