The live binder served as a digital handbook for staff members. The Live Binder included information, policies and procedures for staff members. It was a fluid document that could be adjusted or improved at any time throughout the school year.

Extra-Curricular Activities
As a principal resident, I attended after school extra-curricular activities to support our students. These activities visibly supports the positive, culturally-responsive traditions of the school community.

As a principal resident, I assisted the administrative team with schedule changes and requests.

As a principal resident, I served as the MTSS Facilitator. I presented the framework with Justine Ward for the staff.
B. School Culture and Identity: The principal develops and uses shared vision, values and goals to define the identity and culture of the school.
PTO Sponsored Red Carpet Event
We had a Red Carpet Affair as a community event at Y.E. Smith Elementary School. As a school, our needs included parent engagement. Our PTO is in a reboot phrase, and we planned events for the remainder of the school year to increase parent involvement. One of our goals is to host an event each quarter with an increased amount of staff, student, and parent participation.
Bully Buster Assembly with Wool-E Bull
Bully Busters, from the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, presented to the entire student body. Another goal is for students to feel welcomed and safe at school. With an increase in parents requesting bullying awareness events for their child, we reached out to Bully Busters. This program addressed what bullying looks like, who to report bullying to, and ways to be a good friend to peers.

Belief Professional Development
Our staff participated in Belief professional development. The purpose of this PD was to get an understanding of our perspectives related to what we believe about our students and what we think our students and parents believe about us. The PD was presented by a member of the Community Engagement from the district. We had 100% staff participation during this PD session.
C. Acknowledges Failures; Celebrates Accomplishments and Rewards: The principal acknowledges failures and celebrates accomplishments of the school in order to define the identity, culture and performance of the school.

We hold Quarterly Awards Assemblies to celebrate the accomplishments of our students.
Celebrating Dr. Robinson
We celebrated Dr. Robinson's birthday on March 23rd.

We have a board to "SHOUT OUT" our scholars at YE Smith.

Quarterly PACK Parties
Quarterly we celebrate our students with a Pack Party. Students are able to earn point towards the Pack Party Daily. The Pack Party is a part of our school's PBIS program. For the 3rd Quarter, Summit Church volunteered to celebrate with our students. To acknowledge students that may not have met their goals, teachers and administrators discuss goals for the upcoming quarter and ways to support students in meeting those goals. The PACK Party is a great incentive for our students.

D. Efficacy and Empowerment: The principal develops a sense of efficacy and empowerment among staff which influences the school's identity, culture and performance.
Positive Staff Notes
I write positive notes to the teachers weekly. I am empowering the teachers by giving them consistent, positive affirmations. We are modeling the components of Capturing Kids Hearts that we want to see with our students daily.

Our Tiger Times weekly newsletter has a section for Staff Celebrations. We celebrate "stand out" staff members each week. This practice acknowledges staff members going the extra mile to meet the needs of our students.

Teacher of the Year Celebrations
We celebrated the past and current YE Smith Teacher of the Year. We recognized each teacher, and provided heavy snacks as well as flowers.
