B. Conflict Management and Resolution: The principal effectively and efficiently manages the complexity of human interactions so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.
Family Engagement Professional Development
Ms. Scrivers conducted Professional Development with the entire staff regarding beliefs. This PD encouraged conversations around our beliefs, the beliefs of our parents, and the beliefs of our students. This PD initiated additional conversations with individual PLCs the following week. We tied this PD into our Capturing Kids Hearts reboot. I used the information gained in the professional development to have a crucial conversation with a 3rd grade teacher. She made a comment that "these kids are awful." I was able to refer back to the professional development and gain an understanding of how school and class beliefs. After the conversation, she was able to reflect on the day rather that a generalized statement about our students.
Capturing Kids Heart Reboot Staff Presentation
As a part of our Capturing Kids Hearts reboot, I reviewed the components of CKH with the staff during Faculty Huddle. We discussed ways to greet students daily, provide positive affirmations, and support students with the use of the four questions.
C. Systematic Communication: The principal designs and utilizes various forms of formal and informal communication that the focus of the school can be on improving student achievement.
Communication
We communicate through ConnectEd messages every Sunday evening, Tiger Time newsletters, Tiger Tidbits, social media, and our Community Partner board. After reviewing our parent survey data, we noticed the need for additional parent communication. The Tiger Tidbit revamp has shown improvement in the home-school connection. These practices aid in emphasizing academic goals by ensuring that parents are aware of what's going on in the school.
Testing Communication
Testing communication is needed consistently. We communicate Testing Schedule changes through email and daily announcements. This ensures that our day has limited academic interruptions. Students in K-2 can maintain the components of their day while students in 3-5 are assessed.
D. School Expectations for Students and Staff: The principal develops and enforces expectations, structures, rules and procedures for students and staff.
Y.E. Smith Non-Negotiables
Our expectation, rules and procedures are outlines in our handbook. We also introduced Y.E. Smith Non-negotiables to staff after our arrival in January. Dr. Robinson and I developed these non-negotiables and systematically introduced each section to teachers during PLC meetings.
